Mrs. Houston from Baltimore MD is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need an LCD projector and speakers so they can ALL see what I am trying to show them on my tiny computer screen. They also need stamps, read along book sets, and a calendar kit.

Do you know what a deer, a groundhog, and a dolphin have in common? They are animals my students have never seen. Having the gift of the Internet is great, if only we could show what is out there to the class If we were able to hook our computers up to the big screen, they could see it all.
I have one of the most amazing jobs in the world - I am a teacher to 18 first graders who love everything about life.
If I could give them the world, I would. They love to learn about everything under the sun. However, my students go to school in a low income community in a system that seems to be always cutting our budget. We are a Title I School with over 85% of our students receiving free or reduced lunches. We are always short of paper, crayons, glue sticks, even toilet paper for the restrooms. I do my best to provide what I can, but it never seems like it is enough. We are so lucky to have four computers in our classroom, however none of them have headphones and the system often freezes up. The television in our classroom does not work properly, so even if I wanted to show an educational film, the children couldn't see it. We don't have science or social studies books, and we rarely have enough books for our read alouds. To say the least, we lack resources.
The possibilities are endless as to what we could do with a projector in our classroom. The students could watch educational videos, view PowerPoint activities about Math, preview stories we are going to read, listen to music, etc. If we had Phonics stamps, the students could manipulate letters to make words and read them aloud. If we had speakers for our computers, we could hear what a dolphin sounds like. If we had a calendar kit for the class, the students could do Calendar Math and we could record the weekly weather. Books on cd would be perfect to use with our new headphones on the computer and for our listening center.
I think that every child deserves the same opportunity to learn as much as possible about the world in school.
It is very difficult to teach children about certain things when you don't have the resources to do so. My students are all intelligent, ambitious, and passionate about life. Please help me help them learn the ways of the world.
