Do you remember learning about history and it seeming like an endless stream of words: names, dates, place? My students are not inspired by flat lifeless words, they want to experience what they are learning about and feel part of the action! A LCD projector in the classroom is just what they need!
My students attend an elementary school in a large district in southern NH.
Resources are stretched thin, and there is often little money left for technological "luxuries." However, technology is what inspires them to be creative and think out of the box, and what makes learning enjoyable. They are eager for challenges, and always rise to the occasion when given one.
My Project
Imagine reading about Martin Luther King JR, and the civil rights movement, when all of the sudden you are in the middle of the March on Washington, or in the front row watching Dr. King speak the words, "I have a dream..." You begin to feel the passion and tension in the air at that moment. You can observe who was there and their reactions. You feel part of the movement. You begin to understand why this movement was such an important part of American history.
Now, imagine it is an hour later it's time for science and you are inside the human body floating with red and white blood cells, part of the action. You start of formulate questions like: Why are we here? What is our job? How do we do it?
These are just a couple example of many learning opportunities that a projector and the Internet in the classroom would help to engage and inspire.
One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men.
No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man. ~Elbert Hubbard, The Roycroft Dictionary and Book of Epigrams, 1923
Help me do the work of 50 teachers in my classroom, and inspire my students to be that one extraordinary man!
