"Remember to back up your work!" No matter how many times it is said, if a student does not have storage media, the work can not be backed up.
My students have 2 separate needs for the flash drives.
First, many of them use the PCs in my lab as well as in their individual classrooms. Often, a student wants to continue work from one computer to another. I need a large supply of flash drives in order to allow them to transfer their work between computers. Also, I want them to acquire good computer user habits. Having the flash drives handy to back up their work gets them into the habit of doing so every time. Backing up becomes second nature, so it helps prevent losing work due to accidental erasure or crashes.
My Project
Teaching good user habits, such as backing up work, is very difficult when the children do not have access to basic items such as flash drives. I would like to have enough of the supplies on hand to be able to teach them how to save work correctly, every time. The flash drives are reusable and hold a large amount of data, so students can reuse them over a long period of time.
Having access to blank digital media will be yet another step in teaching students good computer user habits.
They will also have a way to bring work back to their classrooms or even home, to edit, revise or revisit what they have done in class.
