Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do remember morning announcements? Someone comes across the loudspeaker and blah.blah.blah. It normally sounds just like the teacher on Snoopy! My students want to transform our announcements & broadcast them throughout the school. They want to show what they are learning in class and excite others!

My students attend an inner city dual language school in Connecticut.

They take classes in both English and Spanish with the goal of being fully bilingual at the end of their 8th grade year. These kids are truly amazing. While they are at home, their lives are not necessarily the easiest. Like other students, they get up in the morning, get ready and head to school. Some may ride the bus, but most walk to school. These kids are excited to arrive at school because from the second they walk in the door, their world changes. School is a place that they feel safe and want to be EVERY DAY! It’s a place where their minds become a sponge to soak up knowledge. I do everything in my power to get my students to learn and they truly love it!

My Project

Students retain much more information when they can teach someone else what they've learned. By setting up a school wide morning show, my students will be able to take their knowledge and create news stories around the information. The best part about this project is, since oral language is a large part our schools mission, my students will gain the confidence in using their second language to explain what is going on in our school. For those students who don't want to be on camera, they can work on the writing of the stories or the technical side of video production. Maybe by the end of the year, it will make those students who are camera shy, break out of their shell! The technological skills that students will gain from working on our morning show are HUGE! These skills will help them compete with the schools that have more opportunities for their students! I will work with the students on video production, editing, voiceovers, and of course filming.

Donations to our school wide morning show project will help our students learn about technology, put to use what they are learning in class, and help them gain confidence in their oral language abilities.

Help us transform our students into the future reports, editors, and video production staff.
