My Students

At our 100th Day of School Party this year, when asked about their favorite thing in school over all our 100 days, my students responded almost unanimously, "Math Centers!" Since this is the first year we have incorporated math centers into our math lessons, we are in need of engaging materials.

Our Kindergarten class is made up of fifteen students, eight girls and seven boys.

We are one of six Kindergarten classes in our K-5 school. We are from a very small town and are a part of the only elementary school here. Our area consists mostly of low socio-economic families and half of our class receives free or reduced lunch.

My Project

Kindergarten math concepts can be grasped somewhat easily by most students. However, not all learning experiences at such a young age should be teacher guided. Child guided learning experiences are also vital to development and future learning. This type of learning can be accomplished via learning centers. Math-centers, in this case, allow students to engage in social learning experiences, and understand mathematic concepts through play, exploration, and creative activities.

Using a variety of learning approaches in Kindergarten supports student interests and developmentally appropriate avenues for learning.

Students learn well from each other and with these new mathematic materials, my students will be able to learn concepts in a hands-on and FUN way!
