Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year was the first year for my school to have a yearbook that was student produced. My students have been working hard all year to take photos, write stories, and design layouts to make their memories last. Now they are ready to take it up a notch with a better camera.

My students are a fantastic group of kids who are dedicated to documenting each year at our school.

They are highly motivated to improve their photography skills; several of them wish to pursue photography as a career. This year, I have watched my yearbook students make tremendous strides in their writing, photos, and leadership skills. Now, they are ready to take it to another level.

My Project

Currently, my yearbook students are using point-and-shoot cameras for all their photos. While these cameras get the job done, the quality of the photos is less than ideal. Recently, my students had the chance to practice using a borrowed SLR camera and were amazed at the results. The better quality camera made the students already excellent photos look truly outstanding. In addition to better looking photos, a digital SLR will give students the chance to learn real photography skills such as depth of field, adjusting aperture and shutter speed, and working with different lenses.

Having a digital SLR camera will help my students take their photography skills to the next level.

They will be able to take photos than can truly be proud of and better document events such as basketball games and the talent show. I also believe using a professional camera will inspire the students to be more professional, therefore improving my students as people and photographers.
