Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My young students have conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, cognitive impairments, and other health problems which make it difficult for them to develop speech.
I get the greatest kids in my class.
Their parents work hard, most live in poverty and most are learning English as a second language. If that's not enough, my students have added challenges such as cerebral palsy, autism, cognitive challenges, or other health problems qualifying them to be in my class for preschoolers with disabilities. They usually enter my class being unable to speak or express themselves. My job is to help them become as independent as possible, and to prepare them for kindergarten and life.
My Project
These materials will help us work on many different problems which interfere with speech: poor muscle control, motivation to speak, vocabulary, etc. We'll make learning fun with music and movement. Parents often ask me what they can do to help their kids learn to talk, so some things will go home. These special items are not available to my kids through the school district. When students learn to control their drooling, when they can express themselves, they will be building the foundation for their entire school careers.
Please help!
Having tools to address problems with drooling, lack of mouth control, limited speech, and connecting home and school learning will make a big difference for my wonderful kids. Your gift will give them opportunities for self expression, and prepare them to do their best in school and in life.
