Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Technology is not the way of the future; it is the Now. Our children were born into and are growing up in a technological age. Educators are competing with the electronics daily. The majority of information they receive is delivered digitally… until they come to our classrooms and outdated resources.
In an effort to close the gap between classic literature and new technology, I would love to have my students reading materials on eReaders.
eReaders can house class libraries and allow students to read them in a format to which they are accustomed. In addition, students will be encouraged to download books to the eReader from their local library for free. I teach a small group of 7th grade students with disabilities in an AIS (Academic Intervention Services) setting. We focus on English Language Arts skills and story elements. Four eReaders would increase their interest in reading.
My Project
With 2GB of memory, NOOK stores up to 1,500 books, magazines and newspapers. It's an entire library light enough to take with you everywhere. Students will immediately be drawn to the touch screen functions and before long, will be engrossed in a book.
My students are reluctant readers who have recently found a trilogy they love.
With the 4 eReaders, students can check similar books out of their local library electronically. They read more than we think they do on their computer and cell phone screens. We need the same technological approach to the literature we use in school.
