My students need a digital microscope that can help them visualize many of the concepts of microbiology.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Knowledge is contagious! Remember your teachers saying things like "picture this" or "imagine that", well with the use of technology many of those things like osmosis, organelles, and cells can be seen!
I teach 10th grade biology to a diverse group of students.
We are a public charter school that serves a low socio-economic population in California.
Our school has very limited supplies for science and we do not have a laboratory. Our unit on microbiology is a difficult one for students because many of the themes are conceptual. I want to give my students the opportunity to experience first-hand what microbiology is.
College-ready means being tech-savvy and being able to apply concepts learned. The use of a high magnification microscope will help me bring enthusiasm to cells and allow students to experience many topics in microbiology.
My Project
A high magnification microscope would allow students to make careful observations at the microscopic level. They will also be able to make meaningful connections to what they have previously learned about cells. Students will be able to observe cellular structures and cellular processes.
The materials provided will give students an opportunity to do some field-work which is essential for a college science course.
“We cannot create observers by saying "observe," but by giving them the power and the means for this observation and these means are procured through education of the senses” ~ Maria Montessori(Italian Physician and Educator. 1870-1952)
This project will make a huge impact in my student's education.
They will be able to fully operate a x1000 microscope and will also be creating a photo atlas of microscopy. I am excited for them to experience something that I never got exposed to until college. This is a way for them to be ahead of the game, when they get to college. I want my students to be prepared for the challenge.
