“Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” Roald Dahl ended his final book, The Minpins, with these words. I want to open my students' eyes to the fascinating world of fantasy, humor, and literary magic found in Roald Dahl's captivating books by conducting an author study.
Our school district has recently adopted a new set of curriculum standards that are more rigorous than our previous set.
Consequently, my day-to-day teaching and unit plans have changed! I am excited to prepare my students for the future by addressing these standards, but need some new materials to get the job done right!
My readers range from reluctant to ravenous, and from below-grade-level to advanced. In order to conduct an author study, I need materials that will challenge all of my students, regardless of their reading and interest level. Roald Dahl's books fit the bill beautifully!
My Project
I am requesting an assortment of Roald Dahl's books for children. Students will choose several of his books to read and analyze. We will draw inferences and make conclusions about Roald Dahl's style, characters, and the plots of his literature. Our curriculum requires third grade students to compare works of the same author. Roald Dahl's books come in a variety of reading levels, making them accessible to all of the readers in my class. Also, Roald Dahl's books are engaging and rich in poetry and word-play. My students will learn so many new vocabulary words and, hopefully, get lost in a great story!
Roald Dahl's books have been treasured by both willing and reluctant readers for many decades.
Help "hook" my reluctant readers and entertain my willing readers. Help my class conduct an author study they will remember forever!
