My students need books that they can enjoy reading! These classics include books by James Marshall, Caldecott winners, toner and markers to be able to write reports.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Some of my students can read the same book over and over without getting bored! I would like these readers to build on this and write a book report on a book that is on their level.
My school is a free lunch school due to the poverty level of the students.
They may arrive as early as 6:30 am to attend the before school program and leave as late as 5:30 pm. This is a result of their parent or guardian needing to work hours beyond end! My students rely on the school to take care of all of their academic needs as well as most others. Parents expect their students to learn all that they need to in school and most do not help their child with their homework. This may be due to the lack of time or the parent's own educational background. As a result, many of my students are below grade level. Most of my students have not reached proficiency. Our fluency scores are low. I would like to read books of interest and write book reports.
My Project
The resources that I am requesting include books that will capture my students' attention. How do I know that they are interested in these books? They get these book orders, and I see the way they ooh and aah certain books, which for many is a dream. They are interested in doing book reports, so I would like to begin with these books. These books are the right reading level for some of my children. I have gotten wonderful art supplies (Thanks to DonorsChoose.org) and now I need the books (please) to go along with them! Students learn well when teachers do a good job modeling. I would like to write book reports as a class, which is why I multiple copies of the book. I would like to model writing a book report, whole group, and then eventually, assign them to students at home.
It is crucial that students have the materials needed to bridge this gap that is further widening.
How will my students understand their science, social studies, and reading anthologies with such low fluency? Research shows that when students are fluent readers, their comprehension improves. My students yearn to be better readers, but lack the appropriate resources. Besides...how can these kids get through school without knowing how to write a report?
