My students need a Nook Color Reader.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Do you remember being read to as a child by one of your parents? Sadly, many of my students do not share these wonderful memories. To help compensate, I try to read at least three books a day to my students. I also provide many opportunities for my students to read during the day.
I am a kindergarten teacher in rural South Carolina.
My students are a bunch of active and curious five year olds. We are a Title One school that has had to deal with many budget cuts over the last several years. Nevertheless, I feel that my students still should have the opportunity to explore the many aspects of becoming lifelong readers. Through today's technological advancements, I want to encourage this love of reading.
I find that today's students are more engaged in a lesson if technology is used. When it comes to reading, besides projecting a book on a screen, there is not much more technology that I can use to engage my students in reading. I am asking for a NOOK color eReader in order to spark a love of reading for my students. Many of my boys hate to read and would rather be on the computer. An eReader would be more like a "gaming" like device. Not only will the Nook be something my students will want to use, they would think it's COOL to read! This eReader will encourage my hesitant and struggling readers. The Nook can read the book aloud. This feature would help my ESL students. Hearing a story, and seeing the words, builds their vocabulary and fluency which instills confidence.
Your support of this project will help guide 24 kindergarten students this year toward the goal of becoming lifelong readers.
The impact over the years to come will be tremendous! Thank you for investing in the future of my students.
