Insect Investigators

My students need live animals, such as mealworms, tarantula and scorpion and the hand-held field microscopes in order to study the life cycles and characteristics of insects.

My Students

Bring Science to Life! We will study the life cycles and characteristics of insects in the spring and my students want to experience this firsthand.

We are an elementary school in Southwest Texas.

My students come from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. We have an extremely large population of English Language Learners that speak over 29 different languages and counting. To level the playing field, we utilize hands on common experiences.

My Project

Most of my students have not seen these creatures up close and personal. Having the specimens on hand on a daily basis will increase their understanding of the different life cycles. The students will increase their ownership of the knowledge through their individual studies of these specimens through journaling, basic animal friendly investigations, and through the digital documentation of their growth.

I may not be able to take my students into the wild to do studies of these creatures, but with these funds I will be able to involve my students in inquiry based projects that they will never forget!
