My students need 20 Scientic Calculators to help them pass the Algebra 1 End of Instuction Test (required to graduate) and Consumer Math.

My Students

Students have forgotten how to use paper and pencil to figure out problems. They rely on calculators for quick answers. Most adults do too. With a calculator in their hands, they attempt more problems without giving up so quickly. Without them, they just guess at the answers.

My students are mostly 10th and a few 11th graders that are struggling with Algebra I content.

They have attended Algebra I class, but did not pass the EOI, which is required to graduate. Our school would be classified as low income, rural area. Students are active in band, sports, and other extra-curricular activities.

My Project

Math is so important in High School, especially Algebra 1. Many of the problems do require a Scientific Calculator and only a couple of students have one. I think students grades will improve with calculators! Calculators can be used when they take their End of Instruction Test.

Passing the EOI is the MAIN goal in my class.

I have to review everything that is covered on the test and hope that they will pass. They really need hands-on calculators to help them solve Algebra problems.
