Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school does not have a computer lab or library for our students, and the portable laptop carts that are available are incomplete and often not functioning. Students trying to complete projects for World History and position papers for Model United Nations are struggling to complete assignments.

Our school serves underprivileged kids from all across the city.

We are a Title I charter school, and 90% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Many graduates of our college-prep school are the first in their family to attend college. After our extended school day ends, some students will travel hours to their homes which often do not have computers or Internet access.

My Project

As a Social Studies department in high school, we are committed to preparing our students to be successful in college and beyond, and believe that this includes teaching our students proper and effective research and writing. The three netbooks allow more students individual time on computers during class. My AP World History students recently completed a PowerPoint project which discussed African Kingdoms in the format of a business pitch and will be completing two more projects before May. My Model United Nations students need netbooks to research current event topics and UN member countries' information and viewpoints before writing position papers for the conferences we attend in the fall and spring.

Not only would the netbooks help out this year's students and delegates, but future AP World History and Model United Nations students as well.

In our technology-focused global economy, the computer skills they master now can greatly influence their future college and professional careers. My students would be extremely grateful for netbooks that will help them work on assignments to create polished, well-researched, finished products.
