This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What would it feel like if you went through your whole academic career and having never been given a chance to learn about science?

My students are in a special education Special Day Class who have never learned a bit of science in their life.

Now that they are in middle school, this is their first chance to understand the basic concepts of life but need your help to make such abstract scientific ideas become something tangible for them. Most of my students are visual and kinesthetic learners due to their specific learning disabilities but are hungry for the knowledge to educate themselves in the sciences.

My Project

This resource would be a great opportunity for my students to experience the scientific investigation and immerse themselves in the world of science. They will learn not only academic material in relation to environmental sciences but how to be a more well - rounded person. As students with Individualized Education Programs and many goals ranging from academic and social, this science kit can serve as a catalyst to accomplishing their goals. My students will be able to learn how to work together in a group in order to accomplish an experiment through the scientific investigation. Because they have special needs, special materials are needed to create a holistic education that includes consumable materials for them to manipulate and experiment. Having this resource would be invaluable in instilling the importance of "edutainment" or educational entertainment in the classroom that expands beyond sitting at a desk and taking notes.

My students need the opportunity and exposure to resources that have long been denied to them.

With access to this science kit my students will have the ability to visualize themselves as actual scientists, creating history in the classroom by conducting experiments. Rather than hearing stories or reading about what other scientists have done, my students will be able to live the stories that they hear. This will help them
