Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Learning to love literacy is so important in my classroom. The students enjoy using different materials to explore words.

My students are very bright 5 and 6 year old's who love to learn.

They love trying new things and get so excited when they learn something new. Their families chose to put their children into this charter school because of the very high graduation rate we produce. First grade is one of the beginning steps to graduation and I know these materials will help them learn more this year.

My Project

My students love to explore literacy during centers time. Unfortunately, we don't have many books to listen to on tape for our "listening center." A new variety of stories would be exciting for the students. They also would love to use stamps to make their word wall words and create new words at our "word work center." We need a pocket chart, which is not provided by my school, but necessary for many whole group activities in our math and phonics curriculum. A pocket chart can also be used by the students independently for sorting words and letters. A pocket chart is a staple in an elementary classroom.

These classroom tools will help them reach their reading goals and bring some new excitement to our room.

My students' literacy experiences will really benefit from the addition of these items to our classroom. When a child learns to love reading, their future is so bright!
