This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help my students learn Math concepts in a fun and interactive way. I come up with multiple Math activities that the students love and help them learn. We need supplies so that they can have more fun activities that will help them practice basic Math skills.

My school population consists of more than 90% of our kids qualifying for free or reduced lunch.

Our parents try very hard to provide the necessary supplies for their children, but I do end up purchasing a significant percentage of the classroom supplies that we need every school year. I teach 3rd grade bilingual students, and one of my main goals every year is to transition them to English in order to have them exit from the bilingual program. They need as many different opportunities as they can to discuss these Math concepts with others. My students have not been engaged in many experiences or activities outside of their neighborhood. At home they do not have Math games or participate in activities that will help them practice what they have learned at school.

My Project

The Math books that I am requesting contain a variety of Math activity and game ideas that I can incorporate in my classroom. The students always learn quickly using Math games because they think they just playing games. The dice and games will help my students practice their Math skills in a concrete way. They will not just be working using a paper and pencil, they will actually be able to touch and create numbers. The erasers and grouping pencils will be used when we break up into small groups in order to practice Math skills with our white boards.

These materials will allow my students to practice the Math skills they have learned in numerous ways.

In order for students to master a concept they need to practice it multiple times and in many different ways. My students will also have fun as they participate in Math activities. These supplies will also call for partner and group activities. Students usually learn best when they teach others.
