My Students
What better way to learn to read than by using interactive technology!
I have 16 students who attend a high poverty school.
97% of my students are on the free and reduced lunch program. These students will be funneled into a middle school with students that have been introduced to and have access to computers on a daily basis. I want my students to have the same opportunities as these students. They love technology. They are very motivated and engaged when we use any technology.
My Project
My students will use the Tag Reading System every day. They will use them in a center every morning. They will be able to practice word calling, fluency, and the read to me option will help my limited English proficient students. In the state of Texas, first grade students should be reading at least 60 words a minute. This is quite a challenge and the only way to improve their fluency is by reading daily. My students will be more eager to read with the Tag Reading System.
Leapfrog's research states that in a five-week study conducted in a suburban school district in Northern California, students who used The Literacy Center program outperformed students in the control group by 110-123% in reading and decoding and by 22% in phonemic awareness.
It also stated that in the fall, 15 children in a classroom were either non-English speakers or limited English speakers, and by the end of the year 73% of those children had transitioned into a higher proficiency level.
