Help my students flip over mathematics. My students are in a rural school district near a large city on the cutting edge of research and technology. They need access to 21st century technology so they can be prepared for college and the workplace.
Most of my students will be the first in their family to attend college.
Some will be the first to graduate from high school. Our school is in a rural bedroom community for a large city. While our school is wired for Internet, the technology is woefully inadequate and outdated, and we do not have enough computers for our students. As we struggle to use the technology we have, we find we cannot count on it to work on a day to day basis. There are world-class universities and research centers with cutting edge technology in the city near our school; yet our students struggle to gain admission to those universities and often struggle to complete their degrees because they leave our school underprepared to learn in a technological age.
My Project
It is said that you learn best by teaching. I want to put that into practice by using the requested Flip Camcorder to record my students teaching & tutoring each other on difficult Calculus topics. I want to record our class lessons, too. My students and I need the Flip Camcorder to create a video library of lessons from our class. I want to make these lessons and tutorials available via Internet so that students can review the lessons and improve their performance in class. I also believe that this video library can be a valuable tool for other schools in our district, so my students and I can have a positive impact on our entire district.
With limited funding and limited resources at our school, I believe my students are being technologically short-changed and are entering college underprepared compared to their peers from wealthier school districts.
I know that the videos recorded by my students will have a profound impact on the learning in my classroom, the classrooms in my school, and the classrooms in my district. Students often respond better when being taught by their peers, so please give them an opportunity to learn by teaching!
