As the world changes - so do the needs of our students! Please help my students learn how they - even at 6 years old - can help save the Earth and go GREEN! My 1st grade students love creating these reusable bags and toting them everywhere they go.
My students are 6 and 7 years old.
They live and go to school in a small town outside of St. Louis. It is a high-poverty school. Many of them are learning about the environment they live in for the first time. They have no idea of what type of impact they, or their families have on the environment around them. When they think of the future - they see endless possibilities. They should! What I would like to do, with the help of this project, is add to their future, to help teach them that they can make a difference in the community and save the Earth!
My Project
Paper or plastic? Everyone has heard that question. However, do you ever think about the 14 million trees that are cut down each year to make paper bags...or the BILLIONS of plastic bags are used each year? These are questions that I am trying to teach my first grade students about. There are so many simple actions that we can take to help out the environment. By using reusable bags at the grocery store, Walmart, Target, wherever - these students can save up to 24 bags each week! Over the course of the year - that's 1,248 bags just from one class! Teaching young children these habits, and giving them the resources and tools to follow through with them, will help them to become responsible, ecological members of society.
This project is important to me because these students are our future.
It is important for me to know that I have not only taught my students to be responsible for our Earth, but passed along a habit that can make a REAL difference!
