it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Science is an ever-changing field of study. Shouldn't our students' science textbooks be up-to-date as well?
I teach all subjects to a group of fourth graders in a large urban school district in Texas.
My students are all English Language Learners. Up until this year, they have been in primarily Spanish instruction and this is their first year receiving all their instruction in English.
My Project
While fourth graders in Texas do not take a state science test, our school is finding that our English Language Learner students are struggling tremendously on their fifth grade science test. As a fourth grade teacher, I try very hard to give my students a solid foundation in science so they are as prepared as possible for their future science education. Unfortunately, our science textbooks are very outdated and do not always align to the material that we are required to teach by the state of Texas. As such, I am constantly searching and pulling resources from anywhere I can find to give my students opportunities to read about science. These Sciencesaurus books provide excellent, kid-friendly descriptions of the material I am actually teaching. They are colorful and engaging so students get excited about reading about science.
Your support will help provide my students with a strong foundation in science to improve their vocabulary and understanding of basic science concepts.
These books will be an invaluable resource for my students' science learning.
