My Students

As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. My second grade students meet with me several times a week in small reading groups to read books. But with 27 students, they need a way to continue practicing outside of their limited teacher directed reading time.

I am the lucky teacher of twenty seven very unique students.

My students speak fourteen different languages at home. Over 80% of my students receive free or reduced lunch. One thing they all share is a love for learning. My students deserve the very best materials and resources that are out there, and often due to school and home budget issues, they do not receive them.

My Project

Raz-Kids has interactive, online books that are on a variety of reading levels. Books can be read to the students, students can read the book and click on words to hear them or students can read the entire book on their own. After each book there are a series of questions for students to answer. By reading books that are at just the right level and answering questions about those books students will build crucial reading skills. Reading is not just about being able to read the words, but also being able to understand what you have read. Raz-Kids will give my students the opportunity to practice these skills. Students can access Raz-Kids from anywhere where there is Internet. This means they can practice during our after school program, at home and at the public library.

Reading is one of the most important skills a child can have.

You can help these twenty seven children by giving them additional (and meaningful) reading practice. Your gift will provide these deserving students with individualized instruction, which will help them become awesome readers!
