You know how it feels to stand in a long line at the store waiting on people? My students feel this way everyday as they wait on students to finish reading tests or finish math lesson online before they can have a turn. The classroom computers are slow and outdated on top of availability issues.
My students are second graders from a high poverty area.
They love technology, but it is lacking in many of their homes. Some of my students do not have Internet access to them at home, so having these netbooks available would be a big help. We have one computer lab for the building so we only have limited time to participate. The classroom computers are out of date and slow which creates an even harder time for students to benefit from the online reading and math programs available. Lack of school budget funds are cutting into providing new technology for the classroom.
My Project
I want to provide my students with the best possible education through the use of technology. Netbooks will provide endless possibilities for my students in all academic areas. One use in reading is for the students to take Accelerated Reader tests on books they have read to increase reading comprehension and play online games. However, our school district is struggling right now to raise math test scores. Therefore, the majority of the time, the netbooks would be used to achieve better test scores in math. Our district adopted a new math series which utilizes the Internet for reteach opportunities through games and other activities. I will be able to track student progress on the activities that they have completed and decide whether to reteach, enrich or move on to a new concept. Students will be able to practice math facts and play online math games on the internet with the netbooks to improve test scores. Technology also adds excitement to learning for my students.
Having numerous netbooks available for my students will provide great opportunities to impact my students' learning.
Ultimately I would love to have a netbook for each child, but that just isn't possible at this time. These four netbooks would provide additional learning time for all my students. Please know that donating to this project will help my students race into the 21st century.
