Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I, with, they, are, too, to, be, we, me, and, any...
All of these words may sound simple to adults, but these, along with almost 100 other words, are High Frequency, or "sight words" that my students need to know to be prepared for second grade.
My students are an energetic and inquisitive bunch of 28 first graders who attend a Title One school in Texas.
While my students almost exclusively receive free lunch, they come to school every day ready to learn and take on the challenges they will face to reaching their big goal of college in 2022.
My Project
My first graders need to be able to read just over 100 sight words to be prepared for second grade. These words are ones that may be easy for adults; however, because they can not be decoded, they can be tricky for little ones! My students will be able to practice reading these words with the requested materials.
Being able to rapidly read and recognize sight words will allow my students to be more fluent readers.
Our goal is to read 60 words per minute by the end of first grade and sight word mastery will help us reach this goal.
