Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
...as much as the world has benefited from the contributions of gifted individuals, it is disturbing...to realize that the population least likely to learn and achieve its potential is the highly gifted. – Joseph Cardillo. My gifted students need you to help them to reach their fullest potential!
I work in 6 different schools a week with gifted and talented children.
Many are second language learners and/or economically challenged. My children come to school and know a large percentage of the curriculum or they learn it very rapidly and many times then have to read a book to wait while other children work through the concepts. These children have so many gifts to offer the world, but they need to be pushed to challenge their learning and expand their thinking.
My Project
By helping to fund this project the gifted and talented children that I work with will be able to have hands on games that will allow them a concrete format to inspire their abstract thinking. Many of my second language learners and economically disadvantaged students have not had the experiential background to picture basic concepts such as a freight car. The games that I have selected have pictures and manipulatives that the students will be able to use to help them understand high level reasoning. Due to many gifted and talented children being introverts and having asynchronous development, the use of the games would also help the students to learn social skills and understand their own learning and its variances better.
Your donations will help many students realize that there is a world of knowledge beyond the school curriculum.
The children will be to take their reasoning skills, bring them back to the regular education classroom and share new lines of thinking with other students. They will also be apply them to world situations that someday may help the student be inspired to create a solution to global warming or find a cure for Alzheimer's.
