Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember having to take out your textbook to read and answer questions? I'm sure you do, but you probably remember very little of what you actually read. This is why my students need to experience science.
I teach science to 3rd graders who attend a relatively new dual immersion charter school whose focus is space and aeronautics.
They are inquisitive individuals and I would like to provide more experiments to encourage a love of science. At this school, students are taught 60 minutes of science daily in English.
My Project
I am requesting science kits to be used as centers in the classroom. This will allow students to construct their knowledge through social groups. In addition, I would like to introduce science books to my students so that they see the connection across curriculum.
My students currently have a traditional style to learning science.
This includes reading the text and worksheets. I have been about to incorporate technology with powerpoint reviews and some group activities. However, I strongly believe they would benefit and be motivated by a more interactive approach to science. The centers kit I am requesting will help aid this goal.
