My Students

This is the first year that I am teaching the exciting subject of Earth science. This poses a problem, I don't have the supplies at my disposal to give my sixth grade class the hands on excitement they look forward to each day.

My sixth grade Earth science class comes in each day with one question, "Are we doing a lab today?" They love to learn while doing.

This is the time in their lives that they can fall in love with science forever. I want to make that possible by giving them the opportunity to build and create and explore by going beyond the textbook.

My Project

These stream tables are without a doubt the best way to show the power of water. They are set up with a tube on top which represents the natural water source. The table is set up with sand and structures that direct and divert the flow. You can use several types of materials to cause the water to cut through the area or move around it. The students will also use it to classify rivers as they branch.

My students are SO excited by hands on projects and labs.

This project is important because it allows me to add more hands on experiments and add excitement to my classroom instruction. They learn by doing, not by looking at pictures in a book.
