My Students
It is said that 'If you do not hope, you will not find what is beyond your hopes'. This is what I set out to teach my students: to hope. Their education can make their hopes and dreams come true. The students in my classroom come from all backgrounds, from English Learners to the average teenager.
Well over 200 students enter my classroom doors each day, most of whom have developed a very deep seeded fear of mathematics.
The simple truth is mathematics, especially Algebra, is very difficult for students. It takes the right teacher and right pieces of technology for students to truly learn. In addition to the topic being seemingly impossible, intermediate students face obstacles every single day that affect them in and out of the classroom. These obstacles, such as dealing with death, social problems, divorce, homelessness, and parents losing jobs make daily lives difficult. It is hard for a teen to not dwell on these obstacles, it is especially hard to get past them and learn mathematics.
My Project
Technology is a tool that can be used in the classroom to engage students. Technology is at the forefront of our world. It is everywhere around us and students are engrossed in a technological culture. By having an Apple iPad in the classroom, students will be intrigued and engaged. Students can get hooked up to mathematical podcasts and speeches. Students will also be able to access material that will allow them to create slideshares and presentations displaying how mathematics works in the real world. For example, the Graphing Calculator app enables students to generate bright, rich images of complex equations.
Adding this element to the classroom is crucial.
You can put my students on the forefront of education and our world. You can make it possible for them to love the classroom and can provide them with a solid foundation for the future. Help them make this leap into our ever changing technological world.
