My Students
By embracing technology my students can begin to develop 21st century learning skills while developing vital reading skills.
My class is made up of 24 life-loving five and six-year-olds who can not wait to learn to read!
My students enjoy listening to reading and reading books on their own, however they know how. They attend one of four elementary schools in our district. My students live in rural and urban areas on the edge of a larger city, with a wide range of family, living, and economic situations.
My Project
Ipod Touches will allow my students to explore letters, sounds, and words using a variety of applications. They will also be able to listen to examples of confident fluent reading through pre-recorded readings that are purchased or recorded by teachers or older students. They will also be able to self-assess and reflect on their own reading by recording and listening to themselves. Through these experiences my students will gain basic reading knowledge and develop vital reading skills, including reading fluency. These skills will allow them to be successful during their kindergarten year and throughout later grades.
Due to family situations, some of my students have limited experiences of listening to reading (e.g.
reading a book with a parent before bed time). By having this technology my students will be able to get a variety of experiences listening to different texts being read. Through these experiences, my students will hear fluent reading and develop a positive, "I can" passion for reading.
