My Students
"Mrs. R, I can't see!" "Mrs. R, he keeps stepping in front of me." "You are bothering others, come stand by me." These are common interruptions that occur when teaching my students a new art concept. We've all been here, it sure would be great to eliminate distractions, and focus on learning. ask Our
My 5th and 6th graders are wonderful kids.
It's only natural for them to want to learn, see and create. They are at a crucial age that they could either become even more passionate about learning and creating art or loose self confidence about their creations. I choose to install in each of them, to build not only their own self esteem, but to be builders of confidence in everyone. My students have a wonderful imagination and ahh about the world. They live in a small town, where many never move away as adults, yet they have a vivid understanding of what the world around them is like. Our school is made up of students from various backgrounds from lower to middle income families. We have students with severe disabilities, and some are coming to us with Spanish and Chinese as their primary language. Our students love and embrace their differences, and make everyone part of our family. I am proud of each and every one of the students.
My Project
When teaching art, I frequently gather the students around me to see a demonstration of how to safely use tools, how to do a new technique, or simply share the steps needed to complete a project. Unfortunately, these essential teaching moments can create many disruptions. Such as students not being able to see, or fidgety students distracting others. In a perfect world, these interruptions would not exist. Well, with a document camera, it would allow the students to sit in their seats and view the demonstration via a projection in full color up on the smart board. Students would have no problem seeing my demo and could get a clear understanding of the directions. Another wonderful use for the document camera, is is will actually save on the cost of supplies! Since the camera has the ability to record, I would no longer have to create 7 clay samples, but only make one, and replay the demo to the other classes. It's also easy for substitute teachers to replay my demo when I am away
Teaching 380 students can be a challenge, but I put forth the same expectations as if I was teaching 10 or 50 students.
I want every student that comes into my room to be successful, to build self confidence and self awareness of his or her place in the world. I work hard to make every student feel safe and excepted in our school. I want them to feel empowered by making amazing art work. By broadening their visual experience with a document camera, will create curiosity and a thirst to learn
