Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The first month of school is exciting for students, but without the right supplies students start to feel left out. This year I want to inspire my student to do reflective journal writing. Since, the students are in basic skills their writing is below grade level.
I am a basic skills instructor this year for fifth grade.
I work in an urban area and many of my students will need school supplies to start on a positive note. Most students have not experienced a validation of their feelings or expressed how learning is effecting their life. I am hoping students will learn to analyze what they are learning and use critical thinking to express themselves through the writing process. Hopefully, students will learn to share their writing to relate to others.
My Project
I plan to have students publish one piece of writing a month to share on the classroom blog and have students create Voice Threads so their classmates can make comments. Also, students will start to create individual blogs.
The backpacks will give students the ability to manage and keep school supplies organized.
It is important for students to learn how to write fluently and articulate their writing to an audience. More importantly, starting the school year off right will lessen anxiety for those in need.
