My Students

Send us the world! Our school reflects the rural and homogeneous community that my students live in. A lack of experience with other cultures and languages allows stereotypes to flourish. Listening to world music will allow students to explore other cultures and languages.

My students live in a rural community in Missouri.

Too many do not have regular access to the Internet or a library. Roughly 65% of them live at or below the poverty level. They need enrichment and the kind of welcome-mat-to-the-world that world music and language study can bring.

My Project

The Putumayo music CD series distills the world's best music into Cd's with inviting titles, like "African Playground", "Arabic Groove", and "French Cafe". The Cd's selected appeal to our youngest students (Putumayo Kids series) and our oldest (world groove). My students and teachers from other classes may checkout Cd's for use in the classroom or at home. The Cd's will supplement world geography and history lessons, communication arts lessons, our music curriculum, and language enrichment initiative.

With rumba, salsa, reggae, Celtic music, and much more, our Putumayo world music Cd's will tantalize our students’ developing brains and bring the world to our rural, mid-Missouri community!
