This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
If a picture is worth a thousand words (as the cliche goes), what then, is a video worth? My students will be able to show the world the true value of their knowledge, ideas, values, opinions if they have video cameras to capture these things.
The hardworking, creative, thoughtful students at our CA college preparatory high school are pushing themselves every day to succeed.
They work collaboratively to make sure none of their peers is left behind. Through dedication to excellence, they work to create a positive culture in the school and in their greater community.
My Project
Today's students need to be able to negotiate the flood of information that faces them. They need to be media literate critical thinkers, and the Flip Video Camcorders will help make that happen.
In groups, my students will create films that reflect their understanding of fictional texts, current events, advertisements, vocabulary and their own opinions. They will use the video cameras for inquiry based projects and they will analyze their videos, thus increasing their understanding of rhetorical strategies in a variety of texts.
While students are more than familiar with the presence of digital and visual media in their lives, they are not always fully aware of how they can be manipulated by the media.
Increased understanding of this, through creation of videos for a variety of purposes, will teach them to be stronger critical thinkers.
