Helping Hungry New Yorkers

My students need to purchase $350 worth of groceries from Gristede's Supermarket. The groceries will be added to our school food drive and donated to City Harvest.

My Students

We would like to have our class participate in a very special project this fall. Our students would help purchase food items such as canned goods, dry food items, baby formula, etc., and donate the food to City Harvest. City Harvest is a wonderful agency that helps people in need.

I am a teacher of young children with multiple disabilities.

They are a wonderful group of learners. It is a joy to provide them with unique and meaningful learning experiences. Most of our students have physical challenges as well as medical issues and cognitive impairment. Although their challenges are many, their enthusiasm and positive spirit empower us to develop their skills and increase their level of independence at school, home, and in the community. We are proud of their accomplishments and want to find creative ways to showcase their abilities.

My Project

Our students are learning to be active and positive citizens of their school and community. This would be a very special project for my class. Our students would practice their motor, social and communication skills as they purchase the food and prepare it to be picked up by City Harvest. We will also ask the families and the staff of the school to donate additional food items for City Harvest. In this way, we will help bring this important issue to the attention of the school community and beyond. This special project would help my class become active participants in their community.

Often our special children are seen as the ones who need help.

We want to help them to help others in their local community. Please help us to create an environment of sharing and caring. We will take pictures at every stage of the project and keep you posted on our achievement. Please consider becoming our partners in the education of our special students. Thanks for your kindness and generosity.
