Pablo Picasso once said that "Every artist was first an amateur." I have a classroom filled with future artists who need your help. We no longer have an art teacher and our classroom is seriously lacking in the materials we need to create wonderful works of art.
I teach 4th grade in an extremely low-income school.
Our school culture is extremely diverse, with students from more than 50 countries who speak more than 25 different languages. My students are intelligent and creative, but they sometimes lack the resources they need to channel that creativity into physical artwork. Art is an integral part of our curriculum, but with recent budget cuts, the art program has suffered. We need your help to keep the creativity of my students alive before it fizzles and disappears.
In years past, we've had an art teacher who travels to each grade level once a month to teach students about the elements of art, as well as famous artists who used those elements to create masterpieces. We will no longer have this teacher, so I will be solely responsible for the art education of my students. I can supply the knowledge of art principles, but I need your help to obtain the art materials I need to teach effectively.
My Project
I'm requesting a set of books that showcases many of the great masters of art (Da Vinci and Renoir, among others). Students will be able to study the artists and use them as an example when creating art work. I've also requested several teacher's guides that will give ideas and help me refine my art techniques.
I've requested a set of art principles posters that illustrate the importance of things such as line, form, and space. These will be great visual aids for my art lessons.
Finally, I've requested a set of sketchbooks, paintbrushes, pastels, and colored pencils so that we can have a well-equipped art supply area in our classroom. We'll use the sketchbooks to chronicle our journey through the art world. Our school provides paints, papers, markers, and crayons, but we need additional materials like the pastels to supplement our supply.
I am so thankful that wonderful donors like you have taken the time to look at my project.
I hope that you will consider donating to this so that we may have educational and fulfilling art adventures throughout the year. The state standards require me to teach very basic art skills. I would like to do more than that, though. I want to use art to inspire creativity in all areas of my students' lives. I would like to turn amateur student artists into artistic champions! Thanks again!
