Bedtime stories should be a part of every person's childhood. Unfortunately for some children, there isn't anyone who is able to curl up next to them and read a story.
I am lucky enough to teach fabulous 4th graders in a school that has a high population of ELL students (English Language Learners).
One of the many things that make our school special is our students' interest in helping others. They recognize and are respectful to those who are in need. This year, we recognize that not everyone is able to enjoy a bedtime story every night.
My Project
There are many children who want to be read to, but may not have someone who can. Regardless of the reason, my students are ready to give them a hand and be their "Superman."
One of the areas that my students will be focusing on this school year is improving their reading fluency. Making their reading sound engaging with the right pacing, intonation, phrasing, and expression, will not only improve their comprehension, but will also increase their overall enjoyment.
I am hoping to take each book that contains a collection of fun stories from some of our favorite characters, and turn them into audio books created by my students. We will then share these audio books with some of our younger readers and ELL friends.
When there are obstacles that may interfere with a child's need for a bedtime story, there's no need to be "Waiting for Superman." Your generous donation will help improve my students' fluency and allow them to help others enjoy the power of a good book.
