Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Part of kindergarten is learning about yourself and your community. This is when you first start to hear, "When I grow up, I want to be..." But, young children need to first learn about careers that are out there and what they can aspire to be!
I teach full day Kindergarten at a high poverty school in Nevada.
All students receive free breakfast and lunch and, unfortunately, lack some of life's most basic necessities. The majority of students who attend my school are English Language Learners and speak little to no English when first entering Kindergarten. Even though these students face many challenges they are very kind, caring, polite, and hard working. My class is filled with the most friendly, lovable, respectful kids you will ever meet!
My Project
We are requesting a set of career puzzles and a rack to store them on. We are also requesting a Community Magnet Maze. The puzzles and maze will provide a fun, hands-on way for children to explore and learn about their community. We will thoroughly learn about different community workers. This will allow the students to begin to think about what they want to do when they grow up. This is important in a neighborhood where the crime rate is extremely high and the high school graduation rate is very low. These children need to have a dream!
This project will make a great difference in my classroom, and best of all, we can use these materials for years and years to come.
