This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher, I try to set an example for my students that organizational skills are important. However, due to lack of furniture in our classroom I often waste class time getting needed supplies down from high closet shelves, one of only a few spaces available to store items.
My second grade students attend a school where the poverty level exceeds 90%.
Most students come from a single-parent home. Our entire student body receives free breakfast and lunch each day. Our public school is a diamond in the rough, and our students excel and soar.
My Project
By providing our classroom with an organizing storage caddy, all of our materials needed on a daily basis will be available immediately. The students will have easy access to the things that they use most, and most importantly they will be able to get their materials themselves. By taking care of our literacy and math materials they will learn organizational skills taking responsibility for returning items to their proper place. By having materials readily available valuable school time will not be lost and transitions will become smoother.
By donating to this project you will be helping students take ownership of their learning as well as instill a sense of responsibility.
Students will learn valuable organizational skills that will hopefully impact not only their school life, but also make a difference at home. Lastly, you will be helping their first year teacher provide them with valuable organizational tools that will be used for many years to come! Thank you for supporting public education!
