Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"We want cars, a house and money in the bank", my students tell me. But are they financially literate? My students live in an urban area. I am a resource room teacher, my students are diagnosed with learning disabilities and/or speech and language disorders. 95% of my students receive free lunch.
Our school has bars on the windows, but we have great teachers and eager students ready to learn.
The students at our school want to incorporate technology into their classes.
My students love technology. They are constantly talking about cell phones, video games and the computer. My classroom has only one computer and a laptop, that is used for the LCD projector.
Many of my students have attention problems, and do not stay focused for long periods. The best way to attract their attention is with technology. My students are in grades 5-8.
I wanted to find a great project that would teach my students how to be responsible with money while using technology. My students live in an area where there are negative images of fast money but I want my students to understand financial literacy.
My Project
This project will benefit my students throughout their life. Many adults were never taught how to manage their money. I want my students to have an advantage.
Financial Fitness for Life program consists of high quality materials that assist students make better decisions for earning income, and spending, saving, borrowing, investing, and managing their money. It teaches students the ABC's of how to manage money and make smart choices while they improve their reading, adding and subtraction. It gives students at every level the opportunity to learn by doing. The program moves in a developmentally sensitive way from concrete to abstract learning. It uses web links and a CD-ROM for interactive and technology-based experiences.
Think of how exciting this program would be if they could each work on it and be taught simultaneously on individual netbooks. My classroom would come into the 21st century! It would become a class that they would want to enter daily and be excited to learn.
Could your donation change a student's future?
I believe if you donate to my project it could. Teaching students how to be responsible with money, while introducing technology at the same time would be a great success and opportunity for my students. The development of knowledge for use in the everyday life of the students is a main goal. Be a hero and show my students that you care about their future. Please choose to donate to my project.
