Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

CRASH! Another pile of books has fallen off the edge of someone's desk. I am a support/intervention teacher for grades K-5 in an urban, low-income, ethnically diverse school district where there are typically 28-32 students in each class.

I teach 4th graders who are two years or more behind in Language Arts. These students are pulled out of their regular class and spend the Language Arts block with me. Our dilemma is that there were not enough desks in the school, so my students are using computer tables instead. These tables have NO STORAGE! They are just a flat surface and a pair of legs. So all of my students' materials have to sit on their desk, where things are always falling onto the floor or getting jumbled together. This leaves a very small amount of workspace, especially when students are two to a table. (You can see what I mean in my photo.)

The solution I have found are Seat Sacks, bags that fit on the back of each student's chair and provide a sturdy pocket in the back to hold things like binders, books and writing implements that students are not using at that moment.

Your help will make it possible for my students, who are in the most need of academic help of anyone in the school, are able to stay organized, avoid distractions, and have the space they need to do their day-to-day assignments.
