Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My class of 4th grade students are some great kids with a bad habit. Each day I sort through the trash and pick out a lot of items that should be recycled. I want to create a recycling center and teach a unit on the importance of being green to hopefully create lifelong conservationists.

Southern California has been hit hard in these tough economic times. Budget cuts are hurting the kids and our future. My class of 30 kids need to learn the importance of recycling and become conscious of their footprints they are leaving behind.

We have read articles about global warming, but yet the polar bears seem too far away for them to grasp the urgency of the issue. I want to bring it to them. I would like to expose them to world of recycling and involve them in making the earth a healthy place to live. My students need three recycling bins to collect and sort recyclables: glass, plastic and aluminum cans. In addition to these resources, I am asking for a collection of books about recycling and the importance of conservation.

With your generous donation, my students will become empowered and educated on the importance of saving our planet. They will learn the effects of their choices and will spread their knowledge to others. Help me make them realize this crucial concept.
