Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hi! I teach 44 of the most wonderful 4th graders in the state of Texas. Each day is a new beginning and a challenge for these students. They attend school at a Title 1 School and are predominately ESL. They accept their challenge, and we greet each day with a smile and laughter. With hands on learning to form visualization of skills needed, we are rocking and rollin our way through 4th grade math and science.
Our students come to school with very little prior knowledge, but with boat loads of energy! With little vocabulary and low reading skills, hands on teaching with manipulatives is a must, especially for core subjects such as math.
We always need new and engaging manipulatives. Measurement is one of the hardest concepts to understand. Long, difficult vocabulary, such as "perimeter" or "parallel," often become confusing. Anything that we can use to build, measure or examine helps in developing comprehension of subject matter. Even the simple placement of number tiles in or around the edges help in visualization. My students need Magna-Tiles for hands on learning about perimeter, volume, and area.
Your help will make it possible for these students to fully understand and love one of the hardest concepts that is taught in 4th grade. They will be able to build, label, and hold 3 dimensional objects that will make area, perimeter and volume come alive in their little hands.
