I am a self contained 2nd grade teacher. The focus of the school is literature and writing. The school is very diverse culturally. I have students from all over the world. Some from Illionis and as far away as Morocco.
My students are emerging as readers. I want to hook them into being life long readers. Using story books and felt puppets is a good way to draw them into books. It gives them a way to become more familiar with the stories so that eventually they can create their own stories and puppets.
I am requesting a felt board and some story books with felt puppets. Having those things in the classroom will enhance center time. It will give students the opportunity to be creative and practice their fluency.
