This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach 42 Special Education and at-risk students who DESPERATELY need small group interventions. Our school is a kindergarten to 3rd grade transformational charter school in Louisiana. The students of this district are at least a full year behind in reading instruction due to Hurricane Katrina, most are even father behind due to an historically failing school system. These kids need and deserve reading intervention services!
We are two Special Education teachers who share one space with no boards or easels. Our students need a sense of function and structure in their classroom or learning can't possibly happen! They are excited and engaged students, all they need are tools!
These two easels will allow two teachers to teach two small groups simultaneously, and smaller groups equal greater opportunities for learning! These easels will be used by seven groups of six students every day of the week! That's 42 students who will be better readers because of your generosity!
PLEASE! Students in our district have been neglected for too long. Give us the tools we need in order to teach our students how to read and we'll make history in education!!!
