"Connecting Students to Their World of Technology.
I am the only first grade teacher in our school. We are a rural school that has all different levels of students in one classroom. We are a great school that works hard on getting students to grade level in reading.
In the first grade school year, students have to go from reading very few words at the beginning of the year to reading forty words in one minute by the end of the year. They have to become a very fluent reader to do this. They need to hear themselves read and to be able to practice sight words on their own. We have a smartboard in our classroom and the students have taken off with this. They want to go to the next level and the ipod is where we are headed.
The ipod will benefit our class in a variety of ways. We only put in for one because we want to make sure that we can use it correctly before we ask for more. The ipod will record the student's reading to themselves and then we can play it back. This will help the student to understand where they are having problems. This will help me to understand what intervention each child will need. Also, the ipod has a flashcard application and we use flashcards for everything. (Everything being sight words, math facts, word families, and alphabet letters.) The ipod has so much that the kids can use. We can play online educational games developed around lessons that they are learning in the core areas.
Your help will ensure that the majority of my students will be reading at grade level by the end of first grade. This is a huge accomplishment for first graders. Their vocabulary gains countless words each day. With your help we can make they gain the correct words they need to become life long readers.
My students need an 1 ipod so they can work on becoming a fluent reader, and two sets of headphones so that they can work with a partner on their fluency.

Dear JPMorgan Chase, Melissa, Nicole, M. Giant and M. Edium and Sharon,
We would just like to thank you very much for taking the time to support our project to help first graders become more fluent readers. The ipod has made such a huge impact on our classroom that the students cannot wait to use it everyday. We use it for everything from reading, math, science clips on u tube, and rewards for good behavior. Alot of the students have now asked their parents for ipods for Christmas because they can see the impact that the ipod is making in our classroom and want to further their education at home with one. Without your support we would not have been able to use this type of technology in our classroom. The students learn so much more from the use of technology. Technology is how their world works. We would not have been able to do this without your help. Thank you for support to our classroom. Please continue to support projects. They really impact student learning. THANK YOU!!!
With gratitude, Mrs. W.

Dear JPMorgan Chase, Melissa, Nicole, M. Giant and M. Edium and Sharon,
Thank you for donating your time and money to our technology integration. The students in my classroom will really benefit from the use of the ipod by listening to themselves read orally. We really appreciate your donation.
Touching Their Way through Learning will also help the students in my classroom that have trouble with their sight words. They will be able to touch each word as they say them.
I cannot wait to see all of the applications that we can use with the ipod. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to explore this piece of technology in our classroom. I hope that by the end of the year my students' reading fluency scores will meet our district benchmarks. Hopefully, this goal will be met because of your donation to Touching Their Way through Learning.
"Thank you so much for caring about students having fun. It is so very often that we focus just on academics instead of tuning into what students like"
