"I teach 6th grade Science (with a special education focus). Though my school is considered to have students with a higher socio-economic status, I have many students who come from less fortunate homes. These are the students who have rarely had exposure to technology and feel embarrassed when they cannot participate in class-oriented online activities outside our one-hour class periods.

We are planning on blogging about our lab experiences this year. The students are more engaged in their learning when they have technology at their fingertips. An average class period is an hour long and most students forget those IMPORTANT parts of the lessons by the next day.

With access to a classroom laptop, students will be allowed the freedom to blog/reflect upon their learning experiences and communicate with others in the sixth grade. Many students do not have home access to technology; a classroom laptop allows students without technology an opportunity to participate with other classmates in a very rich, online experience. Students without home computer access will be able to come in before school, after school, and during lunch to join our online discussions.

Your help will ensure that my students coming from less fortunate backgrounds will have an opportunity to extend their classroom learning beyond our one-hour class periods and discuss classroom experiences with their peers. HIDE
