We need your help!
I teach 7th grade Social Studies in a very high-need community and school.
My students have very little knowledge of the world outside their neighborhood. They know nothing of their African heritage or the struggles that continue in Africa to this day. Our school is well-intentioned, but little money can be directed towards non mandated supplies or instructional materials.
I am asking for a class set of the memoir "God Grew Tired of Us" as well as the biography of Nelson Mandela. I am also requesting 10 copies of "Nelson Mandela's Favorite African Folktales." I want to use these materials to foster independent reading within in my classroom, as well as open up my students' eyes to current and past events of Africa.
Because of you, my students will be able to see Africans who have made a difference in the world and the struggles they overcame to achieve them. I hope this will inspire them to do the same.
