Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our school has over 4500 students and communication is obviously a problem. The last couple of years, the school paper has dwindled to almost nothing. I decided to take over the paper since I was the editor-in-chief of the paper when I attended the high school years ago. With a crumbled California budget, help from the district is not coming.

Our world is in constant change because of technology, and I want to make sure the students at our school are ready for that change. I want to turn our paper into a digital paper (more of an active website) but with the computers we have now (and no budget) it is all but impossible. I want my school to have the ability to interact in a site filled with music and video and images. Right now, that can't happen because we just don't have the resources.

I am currently in a masters program for educational technology and know the value of a good computer. Obtaining this computer will allow my students to be ready for life after high school. They will go into college knowing applications and be better communicators. That is the ultimate goal; to empower my students with the ability to really communicate to their 4500 peers. I want to create a line of education, information and entertainment with this new computer.

By donating this computer, you will allow that goal to be achieved. The hope is that we can accumulate more computers as time goes by, so that I could use them for my other English classes as well. The possibilities are endless with the right technology. I am a big proponent of using technology to inspire and motivate students, however, our school and state is out of money to help that happen. Students must have current technology if they are going to be ready for college and the real world.
