This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
It is a pleasure to write to YOU! We've been looking for YOU!
Hello, I am a fourth grade teacher in Michigan. Our charter school is located in a major city where there is much need for dedication and passion for not just education, but life as well!
Even though my students do not have much to call their own, they want to share what they do have with children their age in a local orphanage. They want to establish a partnership and friendship where they can have monthly contact with the children for peer-tutoring and/or just "buddy reading" time.
Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to bring this partnership into fruition. In fact, I am requesting books but we need a lot more. Transportation help, general supplies such as folders, writing utensils, writing paper, copy paper, book bags, sharpeners, crayons, colored pencils, cassette recorder with cassette tapes (or CDs) and more. BUT, the book sets will allow for group reading to establish and promote comfort, friendship, reading eagerness and citizen responsibility. We just need a start!
YOU can help us get started! Imagine a world where less fortunate children are thinking about children even less fortunate! These are our leaders of tomorrow and we must help them achieve their goal! This is a wonderful opportunity to answer the call to service, participate in our responsibilities as citizens but even more so...encourage a child to think of others!!!! This is an amazing quest my students have sought to do and I am working hard to do all I can in my power! Please join me in pouring into our future leaders!
